Frequently Asked Questions
Have Question? We are here to help. Here is our list of Frequently Asked Questions to help Diocesan leaders, high schools, and parishes understand Faith Forward.
How is this different from what we already do with Newman Connection?
Faith Forward is our new approach to what you know as High School Outreach.
Here are the key differences:
1. Student driven, not list based. Instead of schools sending us a list of seniors, students personally sign up using a simple link or QR code. This allows students to actively choose connection as part of their next chapter.
2. Powered by relationships. Each school or parish identifies Faith Forward Ambassadors such as teachers, youth ministers, or safe environment trained volunteers. These trusted adults invite students during natural moments like class, youth group, retreats, or graduation Mass to take the next step in staying connected to their faith.
3. Earlier and more intentional transition. Rather than a one time data handoff near graduation, Faith Forward helps students see staying connected to their faith as part of their launch plan for life after high school.
Is there a cost to participate in Faith Forward?
No. Faith Forward is 100% donor-funded and offered free to dioceses, parishes, and Catholic high schools. To learn more about Newman Connection.
What happens after a student submits the Faith Forward form?
Students are personally connected by name to a Catholic campus ministry or the Archdiocese for the Military (if applicable).
What if a student changes their college plans?
Students can submit the connection form at any time, and will be connected to the ministry at their updated college.
How does Faith Forward serve students entering the military?
Students are connected to the Archdiocese for the Military Services, which helps connect them to a Catholic chaplain at their assigned base.
How can students who are not graduating yet connect with Newman Ministry?
Freshman through Juniors can follow Newman Connection on social media to grow in their faith until they are ready to make college plans.
What student contact information is requested?
First name, last name, and email or phone number (email at a minimum) are requested from all students.
Should we focus on collecting a school email?
You can provide whatever email you feel most comfortable sharing. Keep in mind that if a student provides a school email and does not update it with us before graduation, we will lose contact. We encourage you to upload a personal email if possible.
What if a student is involved in both a parish and a high school—will your new system filter out duplicate contact information?
Currently, when you upload a student list, we can identify duplicate students. We are working on a solution to also identify duplicates if a student encounters our form at an event.
What if there are concerns about collecting and sharing minor information on the Faith Forward in Called platform? How do we know it’s safe?
Called is a safe environment friendly platform because:
- Only approved Ambassadors you nominate have access to student information.
- Adults cannot engage with students under the age of 18 one-on-one.
- All data is protected within our servers.
As a Diocesan leader, I would like to have a complete list of all the graduates in my diocese. Is this possible to receive?
Your Faith Forward Ambassadors can submit names and emails directly to their Faith Forward Dashboards. If you have an Ambassador at every high school and parish who does this, our team can create a complete list of all graduating students in your diocese for you.About Faith Forward Ambassadors
Why are Ambassadors needed rather than just asking all parishes and schools to have their kids fill out something directly?
While we do encourage you to share the QR code and link to the connection form at your events, students need to understand why campus ministry matters to empower them to sign up. Ambassadors can have this intentional conversation with them, and it only takes 5-10 minutes.
Is there a limit to how many Ambassadors can be at a location?
No. You can have as many Faith Forward Ambassadors as you need to connect all the graduating seniors in your high schools and parishes to Faith Forward.
What information will Ambassadors have access to?
Faith Forward Ambassadors will have access to student names and email addresses within our Faith Forward Dashboard. They should have the ability to interact with students in a safe-environment friendly large group setting.
Do Ambassadors have to be Safe Environment certified?
All Faith Forward Ambassadors must be approved by your Diocese, high school, or parish so you can confirm if they are able to interact with students. If an Ambassador will be having conversations with students directly, they should be Safe Environment trained.
What will we do with Ambassadors who don’t have connections to youth programs and are not Safe Environment trained (i.e., a volunteer or parent)?
If approved by the Diocese, Parents and Volunteers not connected to youth programs can share Faith Forward resources at public events, conferences, and rallies, with the support of a Safe Environment trained staff member at the parish or high school.
What are the time requirements to be an Ambassador?
Ambassadors will commit to finding ways to incorporate Faith Forward into existing activities. It only takes 5-10 minutes to have a conversation with their students. The Ambassador role is intentionally light—it’s not a new job, just a point person to find ways to incorporate the conversation of Catholic Faith Communities into existing diocesan activities.
What happens if there is no one at a high school or parish who can commit to being an Ambassador?
We can work with high school and parish administration to incorporate Faith Forward into existing classes.General Information
Will the QR code still be available for students to connect?
Yes, students will still be able to complete our connection form via a QR code we will provide in our Faith Forward Resource Kits.
Do you have resources also in Spanish?
Resources are currently being developed. We will link here when available.
Can the Called platform transfer the relationship from Campus Ministry to Young Adult Ministry?
We are focusing on high school students right now. We hope to one day help connect students graduating college back to the church, and our new technology in Called will eventually allow us to do this.
Are we able to track which students go to schools within their same state? Are we able to show the Diocese where their students end up after graduation?
Yes, we can send a report of where graduates from their diocese are attending college.
